Performing Arts
The Cathedral-Carmel music program is designed to inspire creativity, enhance brain power, and foster social-emotional growth. Here, students have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments. We offer wind instruments like flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones , as well as percussion instruments including drums, xylophones, and handbells. Moreover, we also have the latest in digital instruments and tools, allowing students to explore modern music production and composition.
In 4th grade, all students take a general music class where they learn to play the recorder and a variety of percussion instruments, including handbells. This class is a fantastic introduction to music, helping students develop a strong foundation in rhythm, melody, and musical notation.
Starting in 5th grade, students can join our instrumental music program. This is a hands-on way for students to learn music through playing instruments. They can choose from a range of options, including wind and percussion instruments. Learning to play an instrument not only improves brain power and concentration skills but also gets students away from computer screens and engages their brains in unique ways. Music classes are also a great way to support social-emotional learning. Playing music together helps students develop teamwork, empathy, and communication skills. It provides a creative outlet for expressing emotions and building confidence.
Our band program offers unique performance opportunities, including trips to places like New York and Hawaii. These experiences allow students to showcase their talents on a larger stage and create lasting memories. Additionally, our students perform at various school and community events, such as masses, pep rallies, ceremonies, and enrichment performances. They actively give back to the school and community by performing at a variety of events, enriching the lives of those around them.
Every band student at Cathedral-Carmel School loves playing their instrument and takes pride in being part of a supportive, nurturing family that strives for musical excellence.
